RATES & PAYMENTS

Rates include insurance, Value Added Tax (VAT) and unlimited mileage.

Full payment is required at the time of collection. Cash or debit / credit cards are accepted.

DRIVER’S AGE, LICENSES, INSURANCE & EXCESS

Driver’s minimum age is 21 – maximum age is 75.

Any person holding a driving license issued outside the European Union is entitled to drive in Malta for a period of twelve months from the date of last entry into Malta. The hirer and any additional driver/s are required to present a valid driving license at the time of collection.

Driving licenses for Scooters: Up to 50cc an AM license is needed. Over 50cc and up to 125cc a Category A1 driving license is needed.

Vehicles are licensed and insured ONLY FOR USE IN THE MALTESE ISLANDS. Hence it is strictly forbidden to travel overseas.

Insurance for cars is fully comprehensive, including fire and theft cover. Insurance for scooters / bikes is third party only. There is an extra daily insurance cover charge per day per additional driver.

GUARANTEES

A guarantee by major credit / debit card to cover the amount of excess is required.

Non credit / debit card holders will be required to leave a deposit in cash equal to the excess amount, which will be refunded by bank transfer less bank and administration charges. Name of Account Holder and IBAN number is needed.

Vehicle models cannot be guaranteed. However, if a vehicle within the booked group is not available the hirer will be entitled to a free upgrade.

HIRER’S RESPONSIBILITIES

It is the hirer’s responsibility to settle any traffic fines directly at any Local Council or online at www.les.gov.mt within 14 days of being notified, failing which, the amount of the fine plus administration costs will automatically apply.

Split tyres, punctures, damaged rims / hub caps, damage / loss of GPS navigation, is not covered by insurance and is the hirer’s responsibility.

All vehicles, except scooters, are provided with a spare wheel and tools. It is the responsibility of the hirer to change any punctured tyres and repair them at the nearest repair point, normally fuel stations. If assistance is requested, charges will apply (not in case of scooters). Hirer will be charged for any punctures that are left unrepaired or for any split tyres that would have to be replaced.

The hirer is responsible for lost keys. There will be charges covering the replacement / delivery of keys.

If the vehicle is returned late or not at the agreed location, a full day’s charge will apply plus any extra charges until the vehicle is located.

In case of an accident the hirer is obliged to inform the rental office and call the local traffic wardens (or police in case of injuries), who will draw up a report. The report number should be passed on to the rental office. Applicable excess as per rental contract will apply.

In case of theft or malicious damage, the hirer should lodge a report at the nearest police station and inform the rental office accordingly. Hirer should pass the Report Number provided by the police to the rental office together with his/her driving license. The applicable excess will apply.

Vehicles are to be returned with the same amount of fuel as at the time of collection; there will be charges for any missing fuel.

Hirer must ensure that the vehicle is given the right fuel. Any related expenses, including towing and loss of use, will be charged accordingly.

All vehicles should be returned in the same condition as at commencement of rental. It is the hirer’s responsibility to take pics of any damages before taking possession of the vehicle.

Vehicles are to be returned in decent condition. Charges will apply for excessive dirt, stains, wet seats or damage to the vehicle’s interior.

Nova Car Rentals has a No Smoking Policy in all its vehicles. Valeting charges will apply for any cigarette odour.

Under no circumstances is the hirer permitted to carry out repairs to the vehicle without the authorization of Nova Car & Scooter Rentals.24. Vehicles are to be driven solely on normal roads and are in no way meant to be used for off-roading or rough terrain. Damages resulting from misuse outside normal conditions (like damaged sump or activation of any one of the vehicle’s airbags) are at the hirer’s expense.

Helmets are obligatory for scooters. Lost or damaged helmets will incur charges.

CANCELLATIONS

Should the hirer decide to terminate the rental prior to the stipulated date, no refund is guaranteed.
